Chicago-based group Spare Parts is bringing its mix of funk, rock, jazz and electronic to Rockford for two performances Sept. 16—one at Greenwich Village Art Fair and the other at Kryptonite.

Spare Parts recently released thier full-length studio album Brain Candy, which has received favorable review. The band just returned from a 10-day “Disastour,” which included stops in New York City.

Spare Parts includes Shane Jonas (vocals and trumpet), Kevin Kozol (keyboard), Colin Scott (bass) and Mike Bruno (drums).

Fusing a mix of funk, rock, jazz and electronic, the group performs at popular venues and festivals across the nation, including The Metro, The Double Door, Abbey Pub, numerous summer festivals in Chicago, The Lions Den and Coda in New York City, and Birdy’s in Indianapolis. Members have also performed at international festivals, such as the Montreux and Vienna jazz festivals.

Influences—from Primus, Weather Report, Led Zeppelin and Steely Dan—fuel the creative engines of Spare Parts.

The group is receiving airplay on national and college radio stations across the country. Members of the group have shared the stage with The Jazz Mandolin Project, Liquid Soul, Particle, Stanton Moore, Pnuma Trio, Jeff Coffin, Fareed Haque and Victor Wooten. The band has also scored music for several independent films and commercials.

According to Brent Stewart of Nightlife, Spare Parts is: “Incredibly funky! A tight, concisely performed set of tunes …transforming them from a jam band into the more precise, composition-oriented unit. … Spare Parts are decidedly more progressive.”
