The Rockford Speedway will awaken from its long winter hibernation with a bang this Saturday night, April 7, at 7:07 p.m. The historic track will celebrate its 60th anniversary during the 2007 season. To get the season started on a high note, OReilly Auto Parts will present Smash-O-Rama.
Mark Schroeder and his Devastator monster truck will headline the evening of metal crushing. A variety of other thrilling events will join Schroeder on the evenings schedule. Some planned activities include a first-ever convertible steel wall crash. Another highlight of the evening will be the head-on collision of disaster.
The first fast and furious Spectacular Drag event of the year will also be on the card this weekend. This is an opportunity for participants to race their own cars one on one, with other fans who enter the contest. If you think you have a fast car and youve always wanted to find out what it could do on a race track, this is your chance.
The kids in attendance will be able to participate in an Easter egg hunt and are invited to enjoy a free monster truck ride prior to the show. Families are encouraged to come early. The free monster truck rides will begin at 5 p.m.
Advance discount tickets are available at all area OReillys Auto Parts locations. The advance general admission price is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-11. Children 5 and younger are admitted free. General admission tickets purchased at the track Saturday night will be $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 6-11.
The Devastator monster truck will make an advance appearance at the Machesney Park Del Taco just west of the Speedway on Route 173 between noon and 2 p.m., Saturday, April 7. The Speedway will also be open for a practice session from noon until 4 p.m. that afternoon. Admission to the grandstands is free during the practice session. Fans are invited to go and check out some of the cars that will be competing at the track this historic season.
