Spring asthma walk scheduled for May 12

The Fifth Annual “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” spring asthma walk to benefit the American Lung Association of Illinois will be Saturday, May 12, at Midway Village & Museum Center, 6799 Guilford Rd. on Rockford’s east side. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the official start of the walk at 10 a.m. The 3-mile walk weaves through the turn-of-the-century historic village, out into the forest preserve trails, and ends in the museum complex.

Music, children’s activities, a bouncy castle, refreshments, T-shirts and prizes are also part of the offerings. Flowers will be given out to all mothers to honor their dedication to our children. There is no registration fee, but to qualify for incentive levels, walkers collect pledges and other donations for the American Lung Association. Proceeds help fund local community-based asthma programs, Asthma 101 and Open Airways for the schools, a summer residential camp—Camp Asthma Adventure, and 20 designated Asthma Clinical Research Centers, five of which are in Illinois. For information regarding asthma or lung disease, or smoking cessation, contact the LungHelpLine at 1-800-548-8252. There is no charge for the call.

For further information or to register, please call Kathy Sullivan, walk director, at (815) 962-6412, or register online at www.lungil.org.
