St. Vincent DePaul opens Thrift Store

Bishop Thomas Doran blessed the first St. Vincent DePaul (SVDP) Thrift Store of the Rockford Catholic Diocese Friday, Aug. 12.

The Society of St. Vincent DePaul has been helping those in need for more than two years. SVDP is a not-for-profit organization affiliated with the Rockford Catholic Diocese that visits homes and helps those in need.

SVDP helps build the bridge sometimes needed to get people back on their feet. The Thrift Store is one way to raise the funds needed to help those in need.

The store is run by volunteers only, and the merchandise comes strictly from donations by the general public. This helps to keep expenses down, which allows SVDP to have more money to help those in need in the surrounding communities, through the different SVDP conferences associated with several of the Catholic Parishes throughout the Diocese.

The St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store is at 147 S. State St., Belvidere. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Those interested in volunteering or donating items or money, should call 815/547-5418 or e-mail for information.
