State Street Mile run Aug. 11

The 23rd annual SwedishAmerican State Street Mile will be Saturday, Aug. 11. The race begins directly in front of SwedishAmerican Hospital’s State Street entrance.

The SwedishAmerican State Street Mile includes several popular races—Men’s and Women’s Open and Masters, a non-competitive Fun/Run Walk, a kid’s quarter-mile Fun Run, and Male and Female Ben Newson Jr. Heats for K-12th grade students. The race has been called “The Fastest Mile in the Midwest.” It receives this designation due because much of the race is downhill.

Hundreds of runners are expected to participate, coming from many of the states surrounding Illinois. Runners have come from as far as New York to participate in the unique mile race.

SwedishAmerican’s State Street Mile will begin at 5 p.m. with a non-competitive walk/run, and conclude at 7:15 p.m. with the Awards Ceremony on the hospital grounds.
