Statewide education tour in Rockford Sept. 14

Coalition of leading education groups in Illinois holds “Speak Out for Illinois Schools Roundtable” at Lincoln Middle School

Education is the top concern for voters in this fall’s gubernatorial campaign, and Speak Out for Illinois Schools is giving Rockford residents the opportunity to share their concerns with the candidates.

Speak Out for Illinois Schools will be holding non-partisan education-themed roundtables throughout the state, including one at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, at Rockford’s Lincoln Middle School, 1500 Charles St.

Community leaders and area residents concerned with education will be able to discuss and develop a list of the top local education priorities for the gubernatorial candidates. Speak Out for Illinois Schools is collecting those priority lists from communities across the state and will be sending them to the candidates in advance of the gubernatorial education forum scheduled for Sept. 28 at Illinois State University.

Speak Out for Illinois Schools is a coalition of the Healthy Schools Campaign, Illinois NAACP State Conference of Branches, Communities for Quality Education, Illinois PTA, Illinois School Nurses Association, Illinois Association of School Boards, Illinois Association of School Business Officials, Illinois Association of School Administrators, Illinois Principals Association, Latinos United, Citizen Action, and A+ Illinois.

School board members, principals, teachers, parents, students, and community leaders and activists will participate in the Sept. 14 event.
