Street Dance 2003: 20th Century Express March 8

Set the evening aside and mark your calendars now for Rockford Dance Company’s “Street Dance 2003: 20th Century Express.” The annual fund-raiser takes its theme this year from the Company’s spring performance featuring symphonic music of the early 20th century. The Street Dance turns to the popular side of that era. Mike Williamson and Dorothy Paige-Turner will offer music of Gershwin and Cole Porter as guests are arriving, and big band favorites for dancing later in the evening.

Guests are encouraged to wear costumes typical of the 1930s and 1940s, and be prepared for fun. Street Dance 2003 takes place Saturday, March 8 at the Clock Tower Resort. Cocktail reception and silent auction begin at 6:30 p.m. Dinner (choice of Chicken Montrechat, Delmonico Steak with Herb Butter or Grilled Vegetables Moussaka) begins at 7:30 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., the Rockford Dance Company will provide a special sneak preview of excerpts from Interplay, one of the works in the March 29 performance of 20th Century Express. After the performance, guests will have the opportunity to dance to the swingin’ music of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett. Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Woody Herman, and others of the period, all performed by Mike Williamson and Dorothy Paige-Turner. At 10:30 p.m., the silent auction will close, and guests will take home their auction items—and fond memories of a fun-filled evening.

In addition, tickets for the 20th Century Express raffle will be on sale all evening. The drawing will be during intermission at Rockford Dance Company’s March 29 performance of 20th Century Express at the historic Coronado Theatre.

All proceeds benefit the performance, education, and outreach programs of Rockford Dance Company. For tickets to the event or raffle tickets, call 963-3341, or contact any Rockford Dance Company Board member. For tickets to the Company’s March 29 performance at the Coronado, please call 968-5222.
