‘Take Your Dad to Play Day’

United Way and the YMCA of Rock River Valley will host a “Take Your Dad to Play Day” May 20, from noon to 3 p.m. at the YMCA, 200 Y Blvd., Rockford.

“Last December, our ‘Take Your Dad to Play Day’ hosted more than 300 children and their fathers. We wanted to do it again,” said Lana Paris, vice president of planning and evaluation at United Way. “The more kids and parents we can get having fun together, the stronger our families will be.”

The YMCA is opening its facilities free of charge to all fathers (or adult role models) and their children who wish to attend. Families will have access to the swimming pool, basketball courts, Adventure Center, volleyball courts, climbing wall, indoor track, arcade games and tennis courts. Families can check out the YMCA’s new Family Center with interactive recreation games and activities. Food and refreshments will be provided.

United Way will hold a Scholastic Book Fair in conjunction with the Play Day beginning May 18 and wrapping up May 20 at the YMCA. The book fair will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., May 18 and 19, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., May 20. Proceeds from the fair will go to support United Way family initiatives in the community.
