‘The Cooking Cardiologist’ comes to Rockford Sept. 8

Dr. Richard Collins, nationally recognized as “The Cooking Cardiologist,” will be in Rockford from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., to present a dynamic cooking demonstration along with his plan for prevention and reversal of heart disease through changes in diet and lifestyle. Dr. Collins, director of Wellness at South Denver Cardiology Associates, is a leading authority in preventive medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska and obtained his cardiology training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. For much of his medical career, he was an invasive, interventional cardiologist. In 1993, he decided to focus on prevention and reversal of heart disease. For 10 years, he was director of the Dr. Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease in Omaha, Neb.

Dr. Collins is the author of two cookbooks: The Cooking Cardiologist and Cooking with Heart.
