The flu vaccine hoax—part two

What are the alternatives to getting the flu vaccine? Is there anything you can do to protect yourself?

Several alternative health newsletters say yes. They offer a choice of different immune system stimulators that you can try.

Sun Chlorella

Dr. Michael E. Rosenbaum, M.D., in a medical news bulletin, praises the virtues of Sun Chlorella. If you have a weakened immune system, he says a daily dose of Sun Chlorella may be your chance to fortify your natural defenses and stamp out hundreds of health worries. “Sun Chlorella has been shown to be one of the richest sources of three major immune boosters,” he says in his newsletter. “The first are nucleotides—natural compounds that we all have in our bodies, but we lose as we age. Their job is to help strengthen your body’s defenses against the hundreds of different types of germs that cause life-threatening health problems. Nucleotides have been proven in an important research study to help strengthen the natural defenses of study participants more than those who just ate a high protein, nucleotide-free diet.”

Along with nucleotides, Sun Chlorella has a high-powered amount of polysaccharide compounds called beta-glucans. Beta-glucans have long been used in Asian cultures as beneficial foods in the form of mushrooms. Polysaccharides are able to release powerful compounds in your body’s own bacteria-stopping macrophage cells.

Two studies have shown amazing results. In one, poilysaccharides in chlorella were actually increasing the number of macrophage cells in the body—as well as revving up their activity. This gave a major immune boost to the study participants. Another study was even more impressive—it showed that chlorella’s polysaccharides triggered the production of interferon, which is the “gasoline” that powers your body’s immune system “engine” to help your body combat viruses and more.

Finally, Sun Chlorella awakens your body’s natural army of protectors—T-cells—with special protein-carbohydrate complexes known as glycoproteins. These glycoproteins wake up the army and move them into action where your body needs them most.

Sun Chlorella also offers potent antioxidants and flavonoids to help you ward off free radicals that trigger health concerns and speed up the aging process. It also contains more beta-carotene and iron than carrots or even spinach to help improve immune function.

Medicinal mushrooms

Exploring the beta-glucan treatment a little further, Dr. Nan Kathryn Fuchs features them in the Winter 2005 issue of her newsletter, Natural Health Journal. She explains that medicinal mushrooms naturally “rev up” and activate your important Natural Killer (NK) cells. She notes that even though everyone has about the same amount of NK cells in their body, many of these critical disease-fighting cells are not as active as they should be. And some are barely working at all! In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control, low NK cell activity is present in all illness!

Dr. Fuchs has offered a supplement called MycoPhyto(R) Complex that incorporates the strongest ingredients of these medicinal mushrooms. It contains Maitake, Reishi, Cordyceps, Royal Agaricus, Polyporus, and Turkey Tail. Specially grown mushrooms have been enhanced with herbs that bring out their healing qualities to the maximum. Doctors and researchers located the top growers in the mushroom industry that raise medicinal mushrooms in an environmentally controlled setting. The researchers then took their proprietary blend of medicinal mushrooms and grew them on a special formula of Chinese herbs, making them even stronger. The researchers were pleasantly surprised to learn that these mushrooms grew 20-40 percent faster than those grown on brown rice alone! Further clinical testing revealed that these mushrooms had a higher concentration of immune-enhancing ingredients as well. After harvesting and drying the mushrooms, the scientists added the phytonutrient beta-glucan from purified yeasts. Beta-glucan is found in oat bran and cell walls of mushrooms, and it attaches itself to macrophage cells. But by adding even more, the scientists found that MycoPhyto(R) Complex increased NK cell activity by 45.2 percent over another popular mushroom formula.
