‘The Follies—Steppin’ Out!’ brings Las Vegas here

With high-energy dancing, comedy, tuneful music and elaborately costumed showgirls, the glitter and glamour of Las Vegas is set to illuminate the stage of the new Jubilee Theatre at the Clock Tower Resort in Rockford beginning June 20.

Scheduled to play every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evening at 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. through Aug. 31, “The Follies—Steppin’ Out!” features a cast of seven performers who bring the best of Vegas to the Midwest.

Starring veteran Vegas show MC Don Grant Zellmer paired with local favorite Scott Chachula, the two host the fast-moving show that features a mix of contemporary, oldies, and even Broadway music, all feature the Follies Dancers, all costumed in showgirl costumes directly from Las Vegas, including towering headdresses, sequins, beads and feathers. The dancers include Casiena Raether, Kim Bigler, Samantha Weber and Cathy Bozzi.

Rounding out the cast is the Follies featured vocalist, Luciana Fleming, a well-known area singer who has recorded original songs and is the recipient of two RAMI awards. Born and raised in Chicago, she was discovered by singer Bea Brady, for whom she was a backup singer.

Scott Chachula has just completed the leading role in Bandstand USA! at the Jubilee Theatre, and has appeared at just about every venue in the area, as well as Lincolnshire Marriott. Don Grant Zellmer, too, has been seen in Bandstand USA! and comes to Rockford following a season in Branson, Mo., as an entertainer, and has hundreds of tour show credits, television, film and stage credits, including many Las Vegas shows. He owned and operated Zellmer’s Dinner Theatre in Peoria, Ill., for 15 years.

The real “star” of the show is, of course, the elaborate showgirl costumes. Zellmer has had many sets specially designed for his productions through a costume house in Las Vegas, as well as an award-winning designer from Chicago.

The dancers are given plenty of opportunity to “strut their stuff” with many dance numbers of various styles.

Hit after hit keeps “The Follies-Steppin’ Out!” rolling—from hits like “It’s Raining Men” and “I’m So Excited” to “Lullaby of Broadway.”

“To my knowledge,” said Producer Don Grant Zellmer, “this is the first show of this nature to hit the Rockford area. Audiences will be literally wowed by the costumes, as you just don’t see this type of costuming outside of Las Vegas, Atlantic City, or other casino cities. Plus, the show itself is so much fun—there’s always a new surprise around the corner.”
