‘The Giving Tree’ helps Washington Communication Academy

For the past several holidays, St. Peter Cathedral, 1243 N. Church St., has included Washington Communication Academy in its “Giving Tree” program. This year, St. Peter has provided gifts for more than 100 students.

Washington Communication Academy, 1421 West St., serves children in grades pre-K through 8th. Gifts include items of clothing such as coats, shoes, scarves, hats, gloves, and toys. Who decides the recipients’ needs?

“It’s the most needy,” said Assistant Ombudsman Linda Stevenson of Washington Communication Academy. “Those that are less fortunate than others. We have families that may be homeless or lost their jobs.” The ombudsman obtains names of children through their teachers and from her personal knowledge.

The staff at Washington Communication Academy wants to recognize the generosity of St. Peter’s Cathedral in remembering their children.
