The Rock River Valley Blood Center kicks off a summer of fun

The Rock River Valley Blood Center is featuring “Hot Dog Wednesdays” at their facility, 419 N. 6th St., Rockford. Through Sept. 2, RRVBC will provide hot dogs and all the fixin’s to donors attempting to donate blood on Wednesdays. In addition, RRVBC will also feature ice-cold slushies generously donated by Taylor Freezer each day throughout the summer. “Donors are our lifeline. They give of themselves on a regular basis to help save the lives of patients at area hospitals. This is a small way for us to thank our donors and hopefully encourage more people to donate,” said Heidi Ognibene, director of Community Resources.

As temperatures rise, so do high-risk activities and related injuries. In hopes of offsetting blood shortages that are common during the summer months, RRVBC is hoping to incorporate several promotions to recruit donors. One in three of us will need blood. Last year, more than 4.5 million American lives were saved through blood transfusion. The Rock River Valley Blood Center is making every attempt to ensure that the community is given the opportunity to conveniently donate blood.

The Rock River Valley Blood Center is the sole supplier of blood and related services to OSF Saint Anthony, Rockford Memorial, SwedishAmerican, Beloit Memorial, Freeport Health Network, Harvard Memorial, Memorial Community, Northwest Suburban Community and Rochelle Community hospitals. Community-minded volunteers donate virtually all of this country’s supply of blood for transfusion.
