A couple months ago, this writer was in quite a state of elation as her old favorite band, The Shizams, was playing a reunion show at Club 505. Well, theyre doing it again, except without the gimmick of the whole hey-were-back-together-again thing. That sort of thing cant really be repeated anyway, and with good grace and tact, the Shizams are merely playing another showsort of like they never stopped.
At their last performance, the place was so packed that I recall bartender Julie being a little peeved that the boys only had about an hour or so of material, and by midnight patrons were screaming for more. This time around, theyve got a couple new songs so, it might last a little longer.
The Shizams were one of the best things to happen to the Rockford music scene, and I cant emphasize the necessity of checking this one out. If you didnt see their reunion show, come to their non-reunion show and see and hear what you missed from the best rock steady group in the Midwest. I usually like to stray away from superlatives when describing bands in reviews, but The Shizams deserve it. Opening act is hip-hop group Splitendz, and the show starts at 9 p.m. with a $3 cover.
