Third Annual Crime Free Multi-Housing Seminar Jan. 20

The Rockford Police Department and Waterford Commercial Real Estate and Property Management Group will host their Third Annual Crime Free Multi-Housing Seminar from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Benson Stone Company, 1100 11th St.

The seminar is geared toward landlords or property managers. The concept of the Crime Free Multi-Housing program is to take a multifaceted approach to crime prevention in rental properties. With this program, the Rockford Police Department hopes to build a unique coalition of police, property owners and managers, and residents of rental properties to reduce all of the opportunities for crime in rental property.

The seminar, which is free to the public, will provide information and training about the following topics:

Police relations

Crime prevention techniques

Tenant screening

Early detection of drug or other criminal activity

City property, building and fire codes

The Winnebago County eviction process

City ordinances and nuisance abatement

Presenters for this seminar include: Rockford Police officers, Rockford building, fire and property inspectors, and attorneys for the Rockford City Legal Department as well as Prairie State Legal Services.

All landlords and property managers are invited to the seminar. To register, please contact Sgt. Thomas Coe at 987-5041.
