Artistic Director Brad Lyons and Timber Lake Playhouse open the 45th season with the sizzling new Roaring 20s musical Thoroughly Modern Millie, running June 1-11. Timber Lake Playhouse is the first summer theater in the country to nab the rights to this dance extravaganza, hot off its national tour!
This story of a determined, small-town girl arriving in New York at the height of the Jazz Age will have you dancing in your seats! Will Millie Dillmount survive in a world of flappers, with their bobbed hair and rising hemlines? The smash-hit, in the style of such family classics as Anything Goes and 42nd Street, was Broadways most-awarded new show in 2002, winning six Tony awards, including Best Musical.
Millie is a hysterical comedy with non-stop dancing, said Lyons. As were the first theater in the area to produce this musical, our audiences are in for a very special treat.
James Beaudry, known for his choreography of such sell-out shows as Hair, Singing in the Rain and Footloose at Timber Lake Playhouse, returns from New York City to spice things up. Joining Beaudry is a fresh, new cast with guest artists from all over the country.
TLPs 45th season promises to be one of its brightest, featuring a combination of recent box office hits and engaging classics. Exciting events this season include the hysterical new musical comedy, Urinetown, as well as a full-scale production of the family classic The Wizard of Oz, complete with flying witches and monkeys. Plays include the unforgettable classic comedy The Philadelphia Story, based on the Katherine Hepburn film, as well as the new farce Tom, Dick & Harry, a recent hit in London. The season will close with a fourth bonus musical, Fats Wallers Aint Misbehavin, starring an entire guest cast brought in just for this special show. Aint Misbehavin will feature a live jazz combo and the original Broadway choreography, and be directed by Chuck Smith, a Resident Director of Chicagos famed Goodman Theatre.
