Three Celli set for Jan. 14 performance

Performing masterpieces from the Renaissance to Ragtime, The Three Celli, past and present members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will perform in concert as part of the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center’s 2006-2007 concert series.

The event will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 14, at Court Street United Methodist Church in Rockford. Tickets, $20 for adults and $15 for students, are available by calling 964-9713.

Cellists Stephen Balderston, Linc Smelser and Brant Taylor will perform selections by J.S. Bach, Mozart, Handel and Woods, among others.

This concert is sponsored by Barbara and Jack Simon in memory of Frances M. Johnson.

As part of Mendelssohn’s commitment to student outreach, The Three Celli will host a master class for string students at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Mendelssohn Center in Rockford. The master class is free and open to the public.
