The Rockford Thunder have started their inaugural season in the American Indoor Soccer League (AISL) with two big wins. For the second week in a row, the Thunder defeated the defending AISL champion Cincinnati Excite.
Seven hundred thirty-five fans were on hand at the Wedgebury Indoor Sports Center to watch the Thunder embarrass the Excite 11-5 Saturday, Nov. 18. Picking up right where he left off a week ago, Bato Radoncic once again led the Thunder with three goals and two assists. Ante Cop and Mike Rigas both added two goals for the home team.
Rookie Thies Hermann led the Excite with two goals. The team was without their high-scoring Lethal Weapon III line of Tiest Sondall, Matt Brienes and Marcel Matis. Sondall was at home in Cincinnati with an injured wrist, and Matis and Brienes were unavailable because of coaching assignments.
The New York Hampton Surf will be in Rockford for the Thunders next home game at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2. To purchase tickets in advance, call the Thunder at (877) 507-5840.
