Tickets to go on sale for ‘biggest, baddest’ Rockford Rumble

Rockford, “Let’s get ready to ruuuuumble!”

Promoters Mark Bjelland and Bob Johnson are bringing back a familiar event, albeit with a new name, to the MetroCentre.

What was formerly known as the Toughman contest will re-appear Friday and Saturday, May 12-13, as the Rockford Rumble.

Fighters will be required to wear 16-oz. gloves, protective headgear, mouthpiece, shin pads groin protector and foot pads.

The matches will consist of three, 1-minute rounds, with a 60-second break between each round.

Men and women will be divided into four weight divisions. The light-weight division will be for fighters weighing 160-169 pounds. The light heavy-weights will be 170-179 pounds. The heavy-weight division will be 180-189 pounds, and the super-heavy weights will be 190 pounds and above.

Anyone interested in entering the Rockford Rumble must not have any professional fighting experience and no more than five amateur fights. K.I.C.K. International will sanction the event.

The winners in each weight division will win up to $1,000 and bragging rights. Prospective fighters can get more information by calling 888-998-6844 or 749-1226.

For those of us not brave enough to get in the ring, but would like to see all of the action, tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 15 at all Centre Events locations. Tickets may also be purchased by phone at 968-5822. Prices for both nights are $25, $20 and $15.

According to promoter Bjelland, “This will be the biggest, baddest, event of this kind ever in Rockford.”
