Time to sign up for Greater Rockford Little League

Major League baseball pitchers and catchers report to spring training this week. Position players will start to show up next week. Locally, the sound of the crack of the bat will have to wait for a couple more months. However, area youth can start making their plans to join a team this season.

The Greater Rockford Little League is looking for players to join their ranks for the 2007 season. The league is for children of the Greater Rockford area ages 4-14 who wish to play in Little League baseball.

All players who sign up for the Greater Rockford Little League are placed on teams based on skill level, not solely by age. There are no cuts. Everyone on the team plays in every game. They have a high regard for safety and sportsmanship. The league fee includes a complete uniform (hat, shirt, socks and pants). There is no admission charge to any of the games.

All players not already assigned to a team will be placed on one by the league. All games are played at Talcott Page Park. The season starts Saturday, April 28 and games run through July 7. No games are played on Memorial Day or the Fourth of July. Players ages 9-14 are eligible to continue to play after the end of the regular season with a chance to compete in the Little League World Series.

The league is divided into five divisions. The T-ball division is for boys and girls ages 4-6. Their league fee is $70. Ages 7 and 8 are in the coach pitch league, and their fee is $90. The minor league is for participants who are 9 and 10. Their fee is $100. Ages 10-12 comprise the major league, and their fee is $110. Ages 13-14 are placed in the junior league, and their fee is $120.

Players who register prior to Feb. 28 will receive a $10 discount. Families with more than one child in the league qualify for a $15 discount for each additional child.
