Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum wreathed in Christmas carols
Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum will be alive with the sights and sounds of Christmas Past and present on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8, and Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14 and 15, from noon to 4 p.m. each day. Courtesy of the Alpine Kiwanis, children under age 18 are admitted free the month of December. Adult admission for Christmas Past is $5.
For the first time, the 1865 Cottage will be decorated with a theme in mind. This years theme is Victorian Christmas Carols. A number of the carols will be depicted, such as Jingle Bells and Hark the Herald Angels Sing, are still quite familiar, while others, like Happy New Year and The Christmas Star, are virtually unknown today. Each room on the first floor of Tinker Swiss Cottage will be lavishly decorated with a different carol.
Each day of Christmas Past, children will enjoy making their own Victorian Christmas crackers with a prize inside and discovering what prizes await them at the end of each strand of string in the Cobweb game. All will enjoy hot cider, homemade cookies, and tours of a festive Cottage each day of the event. Saturday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m., the River City Sound Sweet Adelines will fill the air with Christmas carols.
During your visit, dont forget to browse the Tinker Gift Shop in the newly opened Tinker Barn & Visitors Center for unique holiday gifts and buy a raffle ticket to win a beautiful queen-size quilt, pieced by Museum Curator Donna Langford and quilted by Rose Marie Mize of the Quilters Loft in Bloomington. Proceeds from the quilt raffle benefit educational programming at Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum.
