Tips to achieve the American dream of owning home

Owning a home is perhaps the most desired goal of many people today. Frequently referred to as the “American dream,” home ownership has steadily increased, reaching a near record high of 68.9 percent in the United States last year, according to the National Association of Home Builders. They say this increase distinguishes the nation as one of the best-housed countries in the world.

In recognition of National Home Ownership Month this June, Gary Rhead of Help-U-Sell Midland Realty, serving Rockford, is encouraging people in the local area to celebrate the true meaning of the American dream and is offering professional services at a set fee to sellers, and is providing the local experience and expertise demanded by home buyers in finding the ideal home that meets their needs. Owning a home doesn’t just mean having a place of shelter, Rhead says, it symbolizes prosperity and success.

“Buying a house is by far the largest investment an individual will ever make in his or her lifetime,” Rhead said. “For this reason, it is important to find a house that best fits your needs. The spring season is here, which means the home-buying market is very busy. During National Home Ownership Month, we want to help people to understand what to look for and what to be aware of when perusing the housing market.”

Rhead offers the following advice when it comes to buying a home:

1. Research—Before you go house hunting for that special home you’ve been dreaming of, it’s imperative that you do some research and learn about what’s happening in the mortgage industry first, Rhead suggests, adding that potential homeowners should know about the loan process, what to expect and which lender he or she might be interested in for the mortgage plan.

2. Organize—Determine what you want and what you need in a home. According to Rhead, it is best to know, early on, what your specific uses of the home will be before you begin looking at different houses on the market. Keeping this information at hand and organized will make the home-buying process smoother.

3. Choose the right agent—Picking the correct agent is perhaps one of the most important decisions you will have to make. Rhead says that it is vital to identify what the agent’s role is in the home-buying process and how that process can help you. Navigate thoroughly and find the agency that works best for you, and you’ll come out a winner in the long run. Recent studies have shown there has been an increase in home inventories. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal online, a sharp increase in homes offered for sale this spring indicates people looking for homes within coming months will have a number of options. Rhead said: “Home shoppers are in a great position to see a wide variety of available homes. With recent studies showing more and more properties on the market, it should not be difficult for most people to find the house that they want and need.”

Help-U-Sell Midland Realty markets properties using a mix of advertising, direct mail and Web exposure. Help-U-Sell Midland Realty does not rely on extraneous commission fees to market themselves, Rhead said.
