Prevent child abuse
April was National Child Abuse Awareness Month, and on behalf of Lee/Carroll County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), I would like to thank everyone who has given their time to help make the community aware of the importance of working in any way possible to help children who desperately need intervention by someone who cares.
There are many people who devote their time to this rewarding endeavor…some serve as advocates (after completing training), some serve by giving their time to mailings or other office assistance.
The Lee/Carroll County CASA advocates are hard workers who donate their time for the reward of helping those who are not so fortunate. Our job is to help children who need assistance in coping with their situation. Advocates are not the only ones who donate time. We have a board of directors whose members support the work that needs to be done, and through their efforts we have the finest recruiting and training available.
We can use your help. So if you need to fill some time and are not sure with what, I urge you to contact the Lee/Carroll County CASA office at (815) 288-1901 to find out what you can do to help. This is the beginning of my second year as an advocate, and I can assure you that if you are looking for a rewarding experience, this is it!

Legacy of Bill Clinton
During the years that Bill Clinton was president in the 90s, there was never a moment that was used exclusively for patriotism or for anything other than a self-promoting photo-op except for the constant coverup for Clintons womanizing and monstrous sellout of all U.S. military nuclear technology to China, our self-avowed enemy. China could not get any test missiles to self guide to predetermined locations on their own territory or in the ocean. That all changed, courtesy of Clinton and our technology. In 1993, after the World Trade Center truck bombing, Bill Clinton was literally handed Osama bin Laden on a platter at least three different times we know of. He refused to have anything to do with bringing bin Laden to justice then, allowing bin Laden freedom to kill.
If you add up the totals of mass murders that dictators of the 20th century have committed: Hirohito, Tojo, Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Mao Tse-tung, Pol Pot and Ho Chi Minh, that figure is still dwarfed by the blood on Bill Clintons hands. Those 6,000 [editors note: verified dead were just under 3,000] that died on Sept. 11, 2001, had effectively been both sold out and then allowed to be murdered by Bill Clinton, putting their blood on Clintons hands TWICE. This makes Clinton an accessory to mass murder before, during and after the fact, and just as guilty as Osama bin Ladenactually, even more so than that rabid terrorist murderer.
Clinton proved his own loyalties in 1994 during the trip to the Czech Republic on camera for the world to seeClinton boldly stated, thats the same woman I saw when I was here 20 years ago. That was at the height of the Cold War, while U.S. soldiers were dying in Vietnam and at a time when no American went behind the Iron Curtain UNLESS HE WAS A TRAITOR AND SELLOUT FOR COMMUNISM AND AGAINST THE U.S.A. Those in the know told us about this in 1990 before the election. It was brought up in the media, and everyone ignored it.
Lets get behind an honorable man now, President George W. Bush, and petition Congress to get off their lazy back-stabbing butts and support this great country for a change!

On Independence Day, lets try to outline what real patriotism isnt.
Lying to your own people to justify the invasion of a country that posed no immediate threat and had no weapons of mass destruction.
Giving tax cuts to the rich while millions lost their jobs and poor children lose their medical benefits.
Taking away the rights and liberties that our forefathers fought and died for more than 225 years ago, and that we celebrate on Independence Day.
Obviously, President Bush does not know what real patriotism is.
Thanks for supporting Auburn JROTC
The cadet Battalion of Auburn High Schools Army Junior R.O.T.C. wish to thank the community for showing their support the weekend of April 25-26 for the programs annual Tag Days fund-raiser. Because of your kindness, our battalion raised enough money again this year to send our cadets to summer camp at Fort McCoy, give seniors who are going to college scholarship money, pay for replacements and to pay for transportation to and from team activities. Again, our thanks goes out to everyone who has helped us this year including: K-marts, Wal-Marts, Osco Drug, Grays IGAs, Walgreens, Eagles, Sams Club, Bobs Hardware, Rockford Fruit and Meat Market, One-Stop Foods, all the parents who helped, and thanks to all the generous people of Rockford! This year was by far our best year, and with your help, we are hoping that next year will be even better.

Lessons of history
If all of us would only learn these few words as well as our current administration has done…
Why of course the people dont want war … But after all it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship…Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. Its bad enough
Secretary Rumsfeld recently crowed that our liberation of Iraq has saved the world from gathering danger. That is debatable, although few people seem able to access a significant national forum to wage that debate.
Who is going to save the average working family from gathering danger?
I refer to growing unemployment and spiraling health care costs; reduced support for public education, mental health and social services; gutting of environmental law and assaults on our individual freedoms.
Add to that list unresponsive legislators, unbridled power of big lobbyists dollars, lack of sustainable energy policy, corporate criminals operating at will, burgeoning federal deficits and massive tax cuts for the wealthy. I am concerned for the long-term health of our democracy, and by extension, democracy in the world community.
Only we can save ourselves. Its been said that when things get bad enough, there will be a general revolt at the ballot box. We will change our executive and legislative leadership through the electoral system. Well, things are bad enough!
Advocates of preservation, restoration
Dear Mayor Scott,
My husband Luther and I moved to Rockford in 1999. We purchased a home in Haight Village Historic District despite discouragement from our realtor whose feelingsnot uncommon among local realtorsthat the downtown area is not worth consideration does a great disservice to Rockford and to people moving here. We have heard his sentiments echoed again and again. We are strong advocates of preservation and restoration. We value urban neighborhoods and have seen misguided urban renewal projects that have destroyed the character of older neighborhoods and have renewed nothing.
I am greatly troubled by the attempt to suburbanize the character of the neighborhood south of SwedishAmerican Hospital with Habitat for Humanity tract housing. Could not the money to tear down houses that have stood for 100 years and put up houses that will be lucky to be standing in 20 be better utilized in rehabbing
the existing housing stock? Is this path a wise investment?
I was also greatly dismayed to read the article in the Rockford Register Star stating that the group hoping to develop the Amerock Building plans to make 88 percent of the units low-income housing. I am an advocate of mixed-income housing, but I feel the disproportionate percentage does not promote development of greatly needed market-rate housing in the downtown area. The river is one of our greatest assets. This is a location people would be willing to pay market-rate rent to live if creative, attractive housing were made available. What direction do we want to take the development of Rockford? Must we all just keep moving east?
Thank you for your consideration.
Elephant handler convicted of cruelty
Would you knowingly patronize a circus whose elephant handler was convicted of three counts of animal cruelty? How about one whose elephant trainer was videotaped not only beating his elephants with a bullhook and shocking them with an electric prod but also showing other handlers how to do it?
The USDA is the agency that inspects circuses and cites them for noncompliance with the Animal Welfare Act. Most circus fans would be shocked to see the many USDA inspection reports revealing repeated violations including lack of veterinary care, shelter from the elements and inadequate ventilation. Failure to meet even the minimum standards reflects the poor care circus animals typically receive on the road.
Why would people who claim to love circuses because of the animals attend a circus with a known history of abuse? Its easy enough to get USDA inspection reports at 919-716-5532. If you want to save time, there is a Web site that has compiled this information already. Click on Factsheets at www.circuses.com to look up any circus and its history of violations of the Animal Welfare Act.
Shame on Rockford Speedway, CherryVale Mall and Winnebago County Fairgrounds for their recent sponsorship of these notorious animal exploiters.
