Tom Vaccaro Cancer Benefit set for Aug. 1

Friends of local musician Tom Vaccaro will be holding a cancer benefit for him on Sunday, Aug. 1, at the Eagles Club, 3829 11th St., Rockford.

Vaccaro has a long musical history in the Rockford area and is well known and loved in the music industry, as well as the car business. Vaccaro, 47, was diagnosed three years ago with a terminal illness, metastatic lung and bone cancer. He received treatment at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. His insurance has been exhausted, and disability does not cover all the medical and living expenses. His wife, JoAnn, and daughter, Candy, are very concerned, and his friends are asking help from the community.

Vaccaro started playing professionally at age 14 and has been in several bands such as Southern Sage, Krystal Klear, Fast Bucks and Flash Back. His main instrument playing was as lead guitarist and keyboardist, but he played others as well.

Some of the fund-raising events planned are raffles, auctions, pig roast, and corn boil. There will be live music, karaoke, amusements for the kids, and a bake sale. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. Donations are still needed for the raffles and auctions.

For more information, call Vaccaro’s cousin, Orlena Rogers, at (815) 621-3918. If anyone would like to contribute, checks should be made payable to: The Tom Vaccaro Cancer Fund, c/o Orlena Rogers, 4703 Amethyst Ridge, Rockford, IL 61102.
