Total Health Awareness Team dedicates new prevention/supply/distribution center

The Total Health Awareness Team (T.H.A.T.) will dedicate its new disease prevention/supply/distribution center and thrift shop (to be known as THAT Station) at 824 Seventh St. in Rockford Saturday, June 24. On that same day, they will also unveil and dedicate their newly acquired mobile outreach vehicle, which will provide mobile disease prevention services for hard-to-reach communities within the city of Rockford.

“After 25 years in the battle against HIV/AIDS, our call to raise awareness through education and outreach is more important than ever before,” said JBryan Latham, executive director of The Total Health Awareness Team. “It takes the whole community and individuals working together as a team in order to get these important lifesaving messages out to the people at risk who need them most.”

The Total Health Awareness Team is honored to be celebrating this new milestone and proud to be dedicating the building and outreach vehicle for services.

“Most people don’t realize it, but this is our agency’s 10th year of excellence in providing disease prevention services,” said Latham.

The Total Health Awareness Team has been providing services and endless efforts to educate others about HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, sexually transmitted infections and other blood-borne pathogen issues since November 1996.

Tax-deductible donations are being accepted in honor of the agency’s important lifesaving work. The public is invited to join in this celebration at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 24.

The Total Health Awareness Team will also host a giant fund-raising rummage sale June 24-25 at the new 824 Seventh St. location from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Proceeds benefit the Total Health Awareness Team’s disease prevention and care programs in the Rock River Valley area. Quality donations of items to resale are still being accepted.

Free HIV testing will be provided during the celebration weekend as THAT begins the launch for National HIV Testing Day to be observed on June 27.
