Toy safety report issued
Illinois Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) released its 16th annual report on hazardous toys Tuesday. It is designed to alert parents and consumers to potential hazards of many toys on the market this year.
PIRG said its report focuses on toys that pose choking hazards to children younger than three years; toys with possible hearing dangers and shopping tips for buying toys from the Internet.
PIRG said it does a yearly sampling of toys and this year found that several seemed to be a threat to a childs hearing. The group said there are no government standards governing such things.
The report, Trouble in Toyland, examines how well present-day toys comply with the 1994 Federal Child Safety Protection Act. The full report will be available next week on The Rock River Times website and also on PIRGs website at www.IlPIRG.org
