Truancy department in neutral

The City of Rockford approved a truancy ordinance, but the creation of a truancy hearing department remains undone. Rockford City Council Codes and Regulations Committee members laid over the proposed ordinance during its Aug. 7 meeting.

City Attorney John Gilberti said while the city waits for Rockford Public School District 205 to come back with a financial agreement, it was awaiting word from Boone/Winnebago Regional Office of Education and the United Way.

“I’m really surprised we haven’t heard from the Board of Education. We should have more response,” Ald. Ann Thompson (D-7) said.

Gilberti noted the city would speak with Winnebago County officials this week.

District 205 Superintendent, Dr. Dennis Thompson, said he received final proposals from the City of Rockford Aug. 7. Thompson said he’d present them to the board at its Aug. 8 meeting.
