Trucking firm to hire 100 drivers

In the next 30 days, the biggest full truckload provider will hire 100 drivers in the Rockford area. Schneider National Inc., made that announcement Tuesday.

The company said it is offering a $4,000 sign-on bonus to experienced drivers and owner-operators. Schneider, however, encouraged inexperienced drivers to also apply for these positions.

Schneider said it is expanding its presence in northern Illinois to serve a growing number of clients in several area industries.

The company said the jobs being offered are local, regional and long-haul positions. A company-paid training program is being offered.

Schneider stated inexperienced drivers will earn an average of $35,500 to $43,500 in their first year. Experienced drivers will draw an average of $49,500 to $58,500 per year. Owner-operators leasing with Schneider will earn an average $105,000 to $115,000 annually.

Mayor Larry Morrissey said: “We are thrilled by this announcement that Schneider National is hiring 100 new drivers in the Rockford area. Schneider is a respected and well-known company, and these new jobs are further evidence that the Rockford area’s location and transportation infrastructure will lead to increased job opportunities in the future.”

Schneider said it is testing a new computer system that will permit drivers to design their own schedules and thereby improve the frequency and predictability of time at home.

Drivers also will have access to the 32 company operating centers, which offer showers, Internet access, exercise facilities and other benefits.
