Unitarian Universalist hosts pianist Jesse Parker

Unitarian Universalist Church of Rockford will present concert pianist Jesse Parker in “A Piano Informance,” an informational performance of piano transcriptions at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 3, at the church, 4848 Turner St. (near the west entrance to Rockford College).

An “informance” is a more relaxed concert with information given before each piece, as well as inviting questions from the audience.

A free-will offering will be taken.

Parker studied with the famed one-armed piano virtuoso Paul Wittgenstein. He has a master’s in composition and a Ph.D. in musicology from Stanford. He also writes and lectures about the prevention of repetitive stress injuries to musicians.

A Master Class focusing on piano techniques specific to avoiding stress injuries for students of The Music Academy of Rockford College will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2, also at the church. Admission is free, and observers are welcome to attend.
