Unlocking Rockford’s resources

• Neighborhood Network presents guest speaker Feb. 29 at West Middle School auditorium

John Norquist will speak of civic engagement and ways to unlock Rockford’s potential at 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 29, in the West Middle School auditorium.

Norquist’s first visit to Rockford was in 2000 when he spoke to a River District audience at a Heart of Rockford Awards dinner. He is currently president and CEO of the Congress for the New Urbanism; he authored a book, The Wealth of Cities; and he was a four term mayor of Milwaukee. Norquist speaks of making change. “The goal is the success of the people. The idea is for people to thrive. Success should be measured by outcomes.” Norquist’s unorthodox style of governing has won him many admirers — his name bounced around nationally in the new breed of “progressives” and “pragmatists” for reform.

Neighborhood Network hosts speakers like John Norquist to inform, encourage and empower the residents of Rockford. Cost is $5 general admission and $1 for students.
