Upcoming performance-Tom Mac Group
An exciting music performance is coming to Rockford on New Years Eve during the First Night Celebration. The Tom Mac Group (www.tommacgroup.com) will be performing from 7 to 8:45 p.m. on Sunday December 31, at the Morrissey Building, 127 South Wyman St.
The show will be performed by 10 musicians and will consist of Cuban music (borrowed from the Buena Vista Social Club), rock, folk, jazz and a bit of classical. Making up the Latin rhythm section will be special guest artist Paul Wertico on drums, who has received seven Grammy awards for his work with the internationally acclaimed guitarist Pat Metheny. On bass will be Fernando Zumbado, a Costa Rican-born musician with over 35 years of experience in Latin Rhythms. Percussion will host Marcello Petti from Brazil, a young but very talented up and coming player. Three guitarists, Tom Mac, Frank Calvagna and Ernie Hendrickson, will provide the accompaniment along with additional musicians on percussion, keyboards and vocals.
The Tom Mac Group has won several Best of Rockford awards and, at one point, was the opening act for the Beach Boys. In addition to performing on New Years Eve at 7 p.m., they will also be the closing act for the city-sponsored First Night Celebration and will perform outside at Davis Park just before the midnight countdown and fireworks begin.
