Utah’s redrocks region feature of Nov. 28 event

The Sierra Club BlackHawk Chapter will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 28, at Unitarian Universalist Church, 4848 Turner St., Rockford.

The program will be “Wild Utah: America’s Redrock Wilderness,” a multi-media slide show presented by Bob Brister, national organizing director of the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance. The show features stunning images of the redrock country of southern Utah by noted wilderness photographers and the voice of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Wallace Stegner. The slide show documents citizen efforts to designate public lands in southern Utah’s spectacular canyon country as Wilderness under the 1964 Wilderness Act.

After the 20-minute slide show, Brister will give a brief update of Utah wilderness issues. The audience will be invited to sign up for Utah wilderness action alerts and to write a postcard to U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) asking him to co-sponsor America’s Redrock Wilderness Act, which would add more than 9 million acres of spectacular Utah federal lands to the National Wilderness Preservation System.

The public is invited to attend this inspirational and informational program, a must-see for environmentally concerned citizens. The program is free. For more information about Sierra Club issues, call Stanley Campbell, Conservation chairman, at (815) 964-7111.
