Visit Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden on Arbor Day

Enjoy free admission at Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden in celebration of Arbor Day on April 30. Visitors are encouraged to stop at the visitors’ center to pick up a brochure, “Re Leaf The Forest City,” which was developed by 12 organizations, companies and government agencies after last year’s July 5 microburst. This tree planting guide brochure was made possible by a grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois. Copies of the committee’s recommended tree list will also be available to visitors that day. This list has been designed to help homeowners determine the types of trees best suited to replace the many trees lost as a result of this disaster. The list is also available at the Arboretum’s Web site at

Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden will have a special exhibit, in coordination with this public education effort. Starting with Arbor Day trees on the recommended list will have special “Re-Leaf” tags to make it easier for visitors walking the paths to locate and study these trees. The special tags will remain posted throughout this year’s growing season so that visitors can continue to observe trees for qualities such as shape, size, or shade.
