Volunteer Center offers grantwriting workshop

All too often, grantwriting is considered a mysterious craft or something that can be done in spare time. While you don’t need a secret handshake to write successful grant proposals, you do need certain skills to bring grant money to your organization.

“Grants 101: Love ‘em or Leave ‘em” will be the next workshop in the series of training sessions offered by the United Way Volunteer Center. The workshop is scheduled for Friday, May 16, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the United Way Volunteer Center, 612 N. Main St., Suite 300.

Participants will learn how to win grant dollars for non-profit organizations in this competitive climate. Some topics will include:

l Matching your program’s mission with grantmakers.

l Writing a compelling grant application.

l Tackling budget forms.

l Grantwriting dos and don’ts, and

l Getting money even if you don’t like asking for it.

Eileen Cackowski, executive director of the Kentucky Commission on Community Volunteerism and Service, will present this interactive session. Reserve your spot for $15 by calling Lana Paris, director of the United Way Volunteer Center, at (815) 968-5400. Information: lana@wevolunteer.com or call 968-5400, ext. 122.
