Volunteers needed for Red Cross shelter

The Rock River Chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking volunteers to work one four-hour shift a month at Nancy J. Smith Homeless Shelter at 809 Cedar St., Rockford.

Red Cross Homeless Shelter has a critical need for volunteers to work in teams once a month for a successful operation. Please call 815-963-8471 to register for upcoming training sessions.

For the Fiscal year 2003:

• More than 711 men, women and children had a safe, secure place for overnight lodging.

u241 people broke the chain of homelessness and found permanent housing with the help of caseworkers and other supportive services.

The success of the American Red Cross and its services rely heavily on volunteers, who are 97 percent of the total work force.

For more information on volunteering, call 815-963-8471 and ask for Scott Jarvis, volunteer coordinator.
