Area residents have until April 1 to vote for Burpee Museum’s Jane the dinosaur in the race to make the Illinois Department of Tourism’s “Seven Wonders of Illinois” campaign.

Voters can log on to and place their tallies.

You can only vote once every 24 hours from a single computer, but you can vote again from as many computers as you would like.

Everyone should go to the Web site listed above and vote once every 24 hours. If you have access to another computer, you can go to that one and vote as well.

From now until April 1, any children who present a print-out of the vote results will receive free admission to the Burpee Museum of Natural History.

The goal is to get all of Rockford involved in this enterprise. Two other local attractions have already been eliminated. If Rockford’s Jane (the subject of two books and a Discovery Channel documentary) should lose to downtown Galena or a railroad museum, then we deserve to hang our collective heads in shame!

If just 10 percent of our 300,000-population region votes once each day, Jane should win this contest and proudly represent Illinois as one of its “seven wonders” for the next year.
