Where else can you hear more than 100 performing artists create 246 hours of music? Taste sumptuous food and beverages from around the world? See sport exhibitions, fireworks, hot-air balloons and a lighted boat parade?
Named one of the top three festivals in Illinois by AAA, the On the Waterfront Festival is held over Labor Day weekend (Aug. 30-Sept. 2), and annually attracts more than 300,000 people to Rockfords downtown River District.
On the Waterfront provides 246 hours of music on seven stages over three amazing days. The Miller Lite Great Lawn is home each night to some of the industrys most well-known musicians. This years lineup will feature Daughtry, Thursday, Aug. 30; The Black Crowes, Friday, Aug. 31; and The New Cars, Saturday, Sept. 1.
Seven music venues ring with the sounds of rock, pop, jazz, blues, reggae, country, ethnic, oldies and R & B.
On the Waterfront also offers plenty of activities for all ages at its numerous special venues. Kids are assured a fantastic time at the Kids Castle. Inside this six-story fun palace, kids enjoy hands-on educational activities and make-and-take creative projects. The World Marketplace provides a unique shopping experience that is sure to intrigue the shoppers in every family.
Other dont-miss events at this years festival include the lighted boat parade along the Rock River, and the Artists at Work event, where spectators can watch artists create landscapes and portraits or get a caricature painted of themselves.
Several events throughout the weekend will appeal to the sports lovers who attend each year. Whether it is actually competing or just cheering on the teams, patrons can participate in numerous events, including the Waterfront 5K, the Kids 1/4-Mile Fun Run, the Big Wheel Race and the Waterfront Net Challenge Volleyball Tournament. Less competitive patrons can relax and enjoy exhibitions by the Rockford Chariots Wheelchair Basketball Team, the Rockford Ski Broncs, and the popular Precision Lawn Chair Dads.
Nearly 40 food booths line the festival streets every year and offer tantalizing treats from around the world, including crab rangoon, egg rolls, pork chop sandwiches, crème puffs, elephant ears, walking tacos, apple fritters, barbecue ribs and more.
Make sure to end each night of the festivalon land or on boatwatching the breathtaking fireworks displays that light up the sky around 9 p.m. and complete another memorable weekend at On the Waterfront.
Admission buttons for the 24th Annual On the Waterfront Festival go on sale Friday, July 27, at locations throughout the stateline in both Illinois and Wisconsin, and online. An On the Waterfront button purchased in advance is $12 and provides access to three days of music, food and fun! By purchasing buttons in advance, you can enjoy all three days of the festival for $4 per day. Wristbands will be available for $15 for a one-day admission at the gate during the festival.
