WEB EXCLUSIVE: Time to put up nets at Sand Bluff Bird Observatory!
It may still be winter, but spring migration of birds cant be far away when the volunteers start planning to put up the nets at Sand Bluff Bird Observatory. Target date, depending on the weather, is 8 a.m. Saturday, March 1.
Anyone interested in helping to set up the nets can come to Colored Sands Forest Preserve, five miles northwest of Shirland, at the end of Haas Road. Because early spring weather can be iffy, participants are urged to call the preserve the afternoon before to confirm arrangements: 629-2671. A message confirming March 1 will be put on the answering machine Feb. 28. If it is snowy or unusually cold, the net set-up may be delayed until the following week. Please call before coming all the way out to Colored Sands. New volunteers are welcome!
