Weekend family fun at Lockwood Park

Bring the family out to the country to enjoy weekend afternoons at Rockford Park District’s Lockwood Park, located at 5201 Safford Rd. in northwest Rockford. There’s a covered pony ring for children ages 1-7, the Children’s Farm with friendly farm animals, and horseback trail rides for riders age 8 and older. To complete their visit, the family can relax together on a scenic 45-minute hayride through the meadows and woods. Tickets for the pony ring and hayrides are $2 per person; trail rides are $20 for adults, $18 for youth (discounted resident rates $18 and $15, respectively), and Children’s Farm visits are free. Advance reservations requested for trail rides. Activities are held weather permitting; regular hours are noon-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays; on Saturdays during Haunted Hayrides (Oct. 29), trail rides operate noon-3 p.m. The park, its facilities, and programs are wheelchair accessible.
