Weekend family fun

Bring the family out to the country to enjoy weekend afternoons at Rockford Park District’s Lockwood Park, located at 5201 Safford Rd., in northwest Rockford.

There’s a covered pony ring for children ages 1-7, the Children’s Farm with friendly farm animals, and horseback trail rides for riders age 8 and older. To complete their visit, the family can relax together on a scenic 45-minute hay ride through the meadows and woods.

Tickets for the pony ring and hay rides are $2 per person; trail rides are $15 per person ($18 non-resident), and Children’s Farm visits are free. Advance reservations are requested for trail rides, which depart on the hour, noon-4 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays through October, weather permitting. Hours for other weekend activities are noon-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through October, weather permitting. The park, its facilities, and programs are wheelchair accessible.
