What’s happening: Key upcoming Illinois dates

Oct. 14: First day to apply for a second public duck or goose hunting area permit.

Oct. 15: Last day to apply for youth duck hunt (Nov. 13-14) and youth goose hunt (Dec. 27-28).

Oct. 16: Woodcock season opens (Oct. 16-Nov. 29).

Oct. 16: Hunting season opens for ducks, pintails, Canada geese, white-fronted geese and snow geese in the North Zone.

Oct. 16: Fall catchable trout season opens at 5 a.m. at selected sites.

Oct. 21: First portion of split dove season closes.

Oct. 23-24: Hunters age 15 or younger, and accompanied by an adult, may hunt ducks, geese, coots and mergansers in Central Zone.

Oct. 23-31: Fall turkey firearm season.

Oct. 30: Hunting season opens for ducks, pintails, Canada geese, white-fronted geese and snow geese in Central Zone, and canvasbacks in North Zone.

Oct. 30-31: Hunters age 15 or younger, and accompanied by an adult, may hunt ducks, geese, coots and mergansers in South Zone.

Nov. 1: First day to apply for late-winter firearm deer permits.

Nov. 5: Raccoon and opossum hunting season opens in North Zone.

Nov. 5: Raccoon, opossum, skunk, weasel, mink and muskrat trapping season opens in North Zone; beaver trapping season opens in North Zone.

Nov. 5: Last day to apply for remaining countywide firearm/muzzleloader deer permits in the random daily drawings.

Nov. 6: Upland game (rabbit, pheasant, partridge and quail) season opens statewide.

Nov. 6: Second portion of split dove season opens (Nov. 6-14).

Nov. 7: Canada goose season closes at sunset in Central Zone, second segment opens Nov. 16.
