Which local college football team is 6-1?

I’d be curious to find out how many people in our reading area know which local college football team is 6-1. That one loss was in an overtime game, 21-14.

In addition to their great win-loss record, they have also out-scored their opponents this season 221-53. They shut out their last two opponents 61-0 and 57-0. They play in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC), and their home games are played in Rockford on Saturdays.

Enough clues? Have you figured it out yet? They are the mighty Regents of Rockford College.

Randy Schrader coaches the team and, on the field, they are led by quarterback Matt Muscia on offense and 2006 All-American Bowl selection Nick Colon on defense.

Unfortunately for local fans, the team has finished all of its home games this season. Now the only way you can see the team in action is to board the fan bus and head to Minneapolis to watch them compete for the UMAC championship Friday, Oct. 27. They have clinched the UMAC South No. 1 seed.

For more information about the trip to Minneapolis, call the Regents’ athletic office at 226-4085. They will also be taking a trip to Colorado Springs, Colo., Nov. 4 to take on Colorado College.
