The warmer fall weather and dry conditions continue to cause leaves to stay on the trees longer than usual. Winnebago County will again be moving back the start time for leaf pick-up. The start of the 2005 leaf pickup program for single-family homes within designated areas of unincorporated Winnebago County will be delayed until Monday, Nov. 21.
The county reminds all residents that the designated areas will be divided into separate zones. The schedules for zones to be vacuumed have been identified on the Winnebago County web site and are available on the leaf hotline.
Residents in single-family homes located in the designated areas of unincorporated Winnebago County will be able to participate in this program by paying the $35 fee. Payment should be made to the Winnebago County Treasurer, 404 Elm St., Rockford. Please include your name, address, phone and PIN (Property Identification Number).
As a reminder, work crews will pick up only leaves. The Highway Department will not be vacuuming up leaf piles that contain sticks, branches, rocks or stumps because they will damage the equipment. No bagged leaves will be picked up. All leaves should be placed at the edge of the pavement no further than 6 feet away and NOT in the roadway.
Any questions or if citizens are unsure of the designated locations, they can call the leaf hotline at 968-LEAF (5323).
