LOVES PARKWhen was the last time you got something for freeno strings attached? Winnebago/Rockford Clean & Beautiful is winding down its 18th annual Christmas Tree Recycling program and offering FREE mulch for area residents. Pine mulch is excellent for use with acid-loving plants such as roses, lilies of the valley, lilacs, azaleas, rhododendrons, hydrangeas and evergreens. Other uses include ground cover for walkways and fence rows. The mulch is available on a first-come, first-serve basis through March 1.
Free mulch is available at any of the following Christmas Tree Recycling sites:
ROCKFORD: Don Schmid Youth Sports Center at Riverdahl Park (parking lot off Sandy Hollow Road, two blocks east of Kishwaukee Street); Blackhawk Park (100 15th Ave.), Levings Lake (east entrance, off Johnston Avenue); Andrews Park (800 N. Central Ave.); Gambino Park (River Lane off North Alpine Road); Alpine Park (900 S. Alpine Road).
LOVES PARK: Martin Park (Park Ridge Road, off Riverside Boulevard), northeast parking lot.
MACHESNEY PARK: Machesney Park Village Hall (300 Machesney Rd., behind building).
CHERRY VALLEY: Baumann Park (behind maintenance building on South Walnut Street during daylight hours).
NORTH WINNEBAGO COUNTY: Williams Tree Farm (4661 Yale Bridge Rd.)
ROCKTON: Rockton Boat Ramp Parking Lot (off Hononegah Road).
ROSCOE: Valley View Farms (6440 Belvidere Rd.)
WESTLAKE VILLAGE: Next to boat launch at Smith Road.
We are encouraging residents to take advantage of this wonderful natural product, Executive Director Lori Gummow said. All area residents need to do is take their own containers and garden tools to gather the mulch. Were hoping that people will take as much as they will be able to use for their home landscaping this spring. The price is definitely right!
