Winter Woods Walk scheduled at Klehm Arboretum

The annual Winter Woods Walk at Klehm Arboretum and Botanic Garden, 2701 Clifton Ave., Rockford, will be held Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 1 and 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Take a self-guided tour through the arboretum’s diverse collection of spruce, pine and fir, and other conifer trees. The walking path is paved and cleared. Bring your 33 mm or digital camera for a family activity called “Branching Out.” Michael Weaver of Michael Weaver Photography will be at Klehm from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday to show visitors how to use their cameras to take pictures of nature and landscapes. Dress for the weather. Pictures will be developed that day for most types of film for a fee. This is optional.

Outside, there will be a warming fire and an area for building snowmen. After a stroll through the arboretum, visitors are invited to come in and warm up with a hot beverage and cookies in the Botanical Education Center. Children’s activities will be held inside. Bring your gear to snowshoe and cross-country ski; trails are not groomed. The gallery in the Botanical Education Center will feature artwork from Keith Country Day School. Admission for this event is $2 per car.

Klehm Arboretum and Botanic Garden is open daily from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Entrance fees to the arboretum are $2 per person for adults 16 and older. Children 15 and under and NIBS members are free. Mondays are free days. Klehm Arboretum and Botanic Garden is wheelchair accessible.
