Without Shoes Modern Dance presents 'Mosaico'

Without Shoes Modern Dance Company will present its spring concert on Saturday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 5 at 3:30 p.m. in Cheek Theater in the Clark Arts Center at Rockford College. The performance, titled “Mosaico,” will present a cultural blend of dance, live music, poetry and theater. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.

Study for Two Dancers and a Musician presents an intimate view of the world of dance and music. The work explores a new way to relate music and dance. Flutist Jacques Saint-Cyr (Mendelssohn Club artist) is integrated into the piece through movement, spatial patterns and direct interaction with dancers.

Wild Spirit is set to African music and inspired by African-American artists’ vision of womanhood.

Warriors, inspired by a work by Hawking Bolden, was created through research in African dances. The music, by Art Blakey, is a fusion of modern jazz and African rhythms.

The program will also feature two pieces from the Young Choreographers’ project. These new pieces of original choreography were created this spring as part of a Without Shoes Modern Dance Company project with local high school students.
