Usually when you read something in this space that refers to a Roscoe native, it is a story about Danica Patrick. Not this time. This time its about Mean Mike Labree, another famous athlete formerly from Roscoe.
Labree will come face-to-face with Horace The Real Deal Craft in the main event of World Championship Kickboxing Unleashed this Saturday night (Sept. 15) at the Indoor Sports Center on East Riverside Boulevard in Loves Park.
Labree is a former world kickboxing champion who has spent the last few months training in the Hayward, Wis., area. Craft is ranked sixth. He is from St. Francis, Wis., and works as an active duty officer on the Cudahy, Wis., police force. They will fight seven 2-minute rounds of kickboxing in the Super-Heavyweight Division.
There will be 11 preliminary fights leading up to the main event. One of the highlights of the under card has Doug The Tank Adams taking on Rockford Rumble champion Andrew The Bull Dog Navickis. Other local fighters, Jonathon Nast, Doug Frye, Leslie Stoll, Jayson Adams, Tyler Bloyer, Jeff McNabb, Doreen Beeler, Jeff Matschle, Toby Gilberto, Michael Anthony, Alex Cruz and 6-year-old Andrew Goodman will also be in action.
Fans can catch Labree and Craft at their weigh-in at 2 p.m., Friday (Sept. 15) at Cousins Bar and Grill, 510 S. Perryville Road, Rockford.
Saturday night, the doors to the Indoor Sports Center will open at 6 p.m., and the first fight will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced at $30 for ringside, $25 reserved and $20 general admission. They can be purchased in advance at the Indoor Sports Center or at Five and Drive Auto Sales. Fans can charge their tickets by phone at (888) 998-6844 or online at www.tix.com.
