WOW Walk Day event scheduled for May 1

Oregon—Ogle County Health Department is kicking off National Women’s Health Month by sponsoring a walking event. Tuesday, May 1, a walk will be held at Oregon Park West in Oregon. The walk will be offered at 10 a.m. and again at 6 p.m. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Walkers can choose to walk a 1-mile or a 3-mile walk. In case of rain, the event will be held at Nash Recreational Center at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The purpose of the event is threefold: (1) to celebrate Women’s Health Month, (2) to recognize the accomplishments of women who participated in the “Women Out Walking” program, and (3) to encourage adults to be more active. The event is open to walkers of all ages, those of all fitness levels, and is FREE.

Refreshments and prizes will be given out at the end of the walk. Walkers will be introduced to a new eight-week walking program that will begin the week of May 13.

WOW Walk Day is sponsored by the Ogle County Health Department, Office of Women’s Health, Illinois Department of Public Health and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Women’s Health.
