The City of Rockford’s contractor has resumed picking up leaves and compost as of April 2.

Yard waste is collected on the same scheduled day and collection point as residential garbage. The amount of yard waste is unlimited, but must be generated from the subject property. Yard waste brought in from other properties is not eligible for collection.

Residential yard waste is defined as grass, leaves, prunings, twigs and branches of less than 4 inches in diameter. Yard waste is to be placed in 30-gallon biodegradable paper bags or 40-gallon garbage cans with handles and with an “X” predominantly displayed to indicate the can contains yard waste. Plastic bags are not acceptable for yard waste.

Twigs and branches not placed in cans or bags should be tied in bundles of less than 2 feet in diameter, bound with string or twine and are to be no longer than 3 feet in length.

Please note that a separate truck from the normal residential garbage truck will pick up both recycling and compost. The truck is outfitted with two separate bins so the compost and recyclables do not mix.
