RiverHawks close out series with Rascals tonight at Road Ranger Stadium
By Joe McGehee Staff Writer
The RiverHawks host the West Division-leading River City Rascals tonight (Aug. 3) in the finale of their four-game series at Road Ranger Stadium. The RiverHawks have won the first three games, and will be looking for a four-game sweep when the first pitch is thrown at 7:05 p.m.
Stateline baseball fans can enjoy a free night of baseball, complete with postgame fireworks, courtesy of the Power Connection. The Power Connection has bought out every seat in the stadium, and fans can visit the RiverHawks’ Web site at www.rockfordriverhawks.com to print their free ticket vouchers, or visit the RiverHawks’ box office.
Rockford is 33-31 on the season, and just three games off the division lead of River City. A win tonight would draw the RiverHawks to within two games of the West Division lead, and put them in the thick of the Frontier League 2009 playoff hunt.
All-Star closer John Muller (2-3, 2.60) will make just the second start of his career tonight. In his first start, Muller pitched four strong innings against the Evansville Otters, but did not qualify for the win, even though he left the game with a 3-2 lead. Muller allowed two first-inning runs, struck out five and walked just one batter July 29. Muller will be opposed by River City left-hander Jake Laber (7-4, 4.34).
Mark your calendars now for the annual “Dog Days of Summer” at Road Ranger Stadium, which is scheduled for tomorrow, Aug. 4. Bring your dog to the game for special “Doggy” door prizes, courtesy of PETCO and Carlson Canine Camp, the doggy pool and other special activities designed with your pooch in mind.
